Siren Season 1 + 2 Primary Sets
Three Seasons on ABC Spark / Freeform tv series Siren has been a pleasure .. I always do a project from the beginning working with the Showrunner, Writers and Producers to develop a look and world feel for the story environment . Siren was intriguing from the beginning. A dark tale set in a small fishing community with a grim and hidden past . The appearance of a mermaid after a hundred years stirs up old passions and angers some feel best forgotten . A great Cast and Crew, very supportive Producers (Peter Lhotka, Joe Menendez), Parent company Freeform, Writers Eric Wald and Emily Whitesell and Showrunner (E. Whitesell) … It was a labour of love and a pleasure to design with the amazing Joanna Dunn and Carla Miranda Art Directors, Rainbow Poffinbarger Graphic Designer, Michelle Pan Art Coordinator, Baron Shaver Construction and Cam Boon Paint and their talented crews, Set Dec Josh Plaw and crew, Costume Designer the brilliant Maria Livingstone and crews, Travis Brooks Greens and crew always had every greens detail down.
A great three seasons and a pleasure watching our brilliant cast through rain, sleet, and more rain doing a fabulous job .
This is the Anchor Pub build set on our stage D2. The scripted idea was to have a town meeting place for tourists, townies and fishermen that is a bar/restaurant and speakeasy in the middle of town .. The heart of Bristol Cove
Ben’s House boat is another important set on Stage D2. It is where one of our main characters calls home and much Drama and dialogue is written to .. Walls and ceilings wild and it feels, in scale like a traditional houseboat.
One of our main characters is Helen played by the amazing Rena Owen. We wanted to give her an amazing antique store so she can connect with the community and tourists of Bristol Cove. Her store Helen’s Antiquities is scripted right under her apartment. In reality, we built each part on a different stage. We even built an installable matching store front to be installed at location in Post Moody..
Anchor Pub
The Marine Research Centre is the build that tied us into an actual Marine Mammal Center in Port Moody run by UBC. They research and train Sea Lions and they are amazing. I designed the build set to be a better layout for shooting and minimal exterior work. It is the natural tie in between the life of our town, and the urgency of the ocean’s environmental crisis.
It was used a lot, and we took the time to change out graphics and Info posters to highlight ocean environmental issues.
We also built a warehouse tied into the facility for our mini tank and as a place of refuge and privacy.
